Prepare Your Skin Before Using an IPL Device
Why Skin Prep Matters
Proper skin preparation ensures IPL light targets hair follicles effectively. It reduces risk of burns, irritation, and poor results. Skipping prep leads to failed treatments and potential skin damage.
The 24-Hour Patch Test
Always perform a patch test 24 hours before your first full session. This checks for adverse reactions.
- Choose a small area like your inner forearm.
- Shave the area clean. Do not wax or pluck.
- Set your IPL device to the lowest recommended energy level for your skin tone.
- Apply one flash. Wait 24 hours.
- Check for excessive redness, swelling, or blistering. If present, do not proceed.
Skin and Hair Requirements
IPL works best on specific contrasts. Your skin must be clean, dry, and free of products.
